I went to sleep with Polyhedrons on overnight repeat at my bedside for about a week straight when I first got it. It's excellent deep music that sounds and feels very neutral, but never thin or faint, which is sometimes the case with ambient music that is too afraid of getting loud or busy. Tim clearly has a way with his work and this tape is no exception.
Favorite track: Pentahedron.
Hypnotic, minimal and trance-inducing drones intended for deep listening and meditation, relaxation or just background ambience. Complex, long-form synthesizer textures created as part of the composer's own trancework practice.
While composing pieces for my Ethernet project, which are typically made up of many layered drones to create a constantly-shifting whole, occasionally an individual synthesizer patch would capture my attention and demand independent exploration. Often I would end up sitting with a drone for long periods of time, an hour or more, letting it evolve and run its own unexpected paths due to complex modulation, extremely long envelopes, random LFOs, and real-time manipulation. Finally I would distill the drone down to a 10-20 minute recorded piece. "Polyhedrons" collects four such pieces produced through this process.
"Polyhedrons" is the first in a planned series of small-edition drone cassettes, and the inaugural release of the Kenoma Tapes imprint.
